This regional mountain magazine is dedicated to positive news. When we are forced to print negative information important to our readers we try to always give actions they can take to change or make a difference with those issues. It falls into the category of complainers who never offer solutions and at the Highlander we like to give our loyal and new readers a sense of empowerment along with disseminating information.
Too many publications insult their readers by deciding for them what is right or wrong, we think the majority of the population is smart enough to make up their own minds. By trying to give just the facts and not color them one way or another we inform the readers and let them decide. Most of the local daily newspapers are biased and heavy with advertising, whereas we pride ourselves in giving readers more material to read than ads to take up valuable space. While advertising allows the magazine to be free to the public and pays the expenses it should never be the main focus.
A monthly magazine has more bang for the buck for advertisers, as it stays around longer than daily or weekly newspapers. People read an article or two and leave the issue on the coffee table for the next viewing. Our motto is that anyone living in the Rocky Mountain region is a Highlander and we should stay informed about more than just local issues. We have often addressed issues long before other publications and strive to give readers time sensitive news before it is too late to act or attend.
As our winter season arrives in this four-canyon region (Boulder Canyon to Clear Creek Canyon and the metro Denver northwestern suburbs) we endeavor to highlight local events and issues that help our readers stay informed and utilize our publication as the one place they can find out what is happening on the positive side of life. Promoting prevention by reminding readers to get ready for winter driving conditions or proper trash disposal to keep the bears away are just a couple of examples of the positive leanings we promise to provide.
When the Highlander covers issues important to local readers we follow through and keep updates coming so residents and readers can stay informed and educated about the continuing status of these often controversial projects, plans and environmental concerns. It is with the help of many contributing individuals that we have maintained a higher level of integrity, factual data and that positive spin that is missing from the other publications in the area.
